Company
In 1999, Mariella, a brilliant Italian lady, mother of 4 children, decided that a great ancient tradition born thousands years ago was not ready to die and keep staying alive just in our memories.
She decided that this tradition should have been alive forever.
Two 80 years old ladies were the only ones still able to keep alive this tradition, the same one which Homer in the Odyssey describes to be the elegant art of weaving.
Almost 3.000 years ago, Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, was weaving by using exactly the same wooden looms and exactly the same way we do it today in our company. That's the way La Tela di Penelope creates its unique and precious fabrics and products keeping alive beauty, history and culture in the most beautiful homes of the world.
Mariella founded a Weaving School where the two old ladies have been teaching for two years to our weavers.
The company is based in San Marco d'Alunzio in southern Italy and the entire production is exclusively italian hand-made.
